Pride of the Mara

In the lion society, females stay with their natal pride and males leave once they are old enough. When cubs are born the lioness fiercely protects them while the male lions play no paternal role. The cubs start to eat meat at about three months and are weaned at about six months. They stay with their mothers for about two years, by which stage they have joined the pride’s hunting trips. The responsibility for training them to hunt is also that of the mother. Spotting a large pride with lionesses and cubs is a sight that brings travellers to Masai Mara over and over again
